Digital transformation of Sonnweid AG. Sonnweid is a home for people with dementia in Zürcher Oberland with approx. 300 employees and about 160 residents.

The task

Sonnweid is a home for people with dementia in Zürcher Oberland with approx. 300 employees and approx. 160 residents. At Sonnweid the task consisted of 2 work packages: initially U-CI was to analyse the processes and procedures of the house as branch external consultants and put together an analysis of potential.
Aim of the analysis of potential was to increase the efficiency of all those involved in the process thereby leaving more time for the residents.
The result of the analysis of potential was that there was a big deficit in respect of digital processes. This resulted in the second work package which was to digitalise the health care area by developing and introducing a completely new IT system.

The solution

Process optimisation and digitalisation relieves carers and management

First of all, as there was no IT infrastructure, specifications were put together in order to establish which IT tools would be required. For this a project team was assembled: consisting of home management, project leaders internal and external (U-CI) as well as a programmer and a specialist for visual and inter-active software design.
From the beginning there were regular meetings, workshops and status meetings in order to include all those involved as well as the future users, so that the IT didn’t only add value for management but also for the carers. After a Europe wide comparison and screening of the market we determined that there was no software that we could fall back on. A programmer team from U-CI’s network took on the task of achieving the IT project. Concept, project management, programming – everything from a single source. Implementation by Agile Project Management: first, a digitalisation portal was developed and parallel to this the first apps (meals, residents, events, technical service etc.) were generated and introduced. By actively including the employees as well as their commitment, optimisation was brought about quickly.

Targets of the new IT system:

Development of an intranet, where all existing and future IT tools can be called up from an app:

a. Mobile first – appealingly intuitive and easy to operate

b. Communication and information centre for all

c. Extendable up to complete digitalisation of the home and electronic resident cards

d. Development of a new kind of knowledge management in the home (SonnWiki)

e. Inclusion of new care documentation
